Put Your Best Foot Forward

Put Your Best Foot Forward

When it comes to showcasing your talent, you only get one chance at a first impression. That being said, you want to make that first impression count, and that means your best songs 1st, with at least a mix down (and if possible mastered), on a professional looking CD, not a copy.

Think about it, anyone you give your music to that’s worth his/her salt, is going to be receiving possibly hundreds of cd’s a week. I can tell you right now, the majority of them are thrown out on looks alone. Another big bunch of them are tossed out on the basis of poor sound quality. the few that actually get listened to are the professional looking, and sounding ones. However, if they don’t like the feel of that first song they might not even listen to the second, let alone the third.

It’s also good to know the people you are submitting your music to.
Be sure to customize your demo to what they might be looking for. Do your research. Don’t just guess. Find out who the just signed, what songs the just released, what does their website say and promote. The more research the better your chances so no slacking. You’ll only get out of it what you put in.

Lastly, if you can include professional bio and pictures, it will only help your cause. Remember, the more it looks as though you are a professional businessman or women, and have that buisness together, the more likely they are to lend you their professional ear.
